Handbook for the Routemaster is available again
And now a short story -
"Normally when I buy a quality used car, there's a handbook in the glove-box. It tells me, how to operate the air-conditioning, where the fuse box is, what the tyre pressures are, when to get it serviced and a thousand other useful facts.
But when I bought my Routemaster, no glovebox, and no book! A friend told me about the Routemaster Association. “If they can't help you, “he said, “no one can”. So I joined.
Not only did they supply a brilliant handbook, they suggested where I might keep it, as you can't get Routemaster gloveboxes anymore.
I know, I asked."
There never has been one single publication or handbook that would provide a ‘new’ Routemaster owner with the essential facts to keep his/her vehicle maintained. Of course, for any major work or maintenance, the LT originated manual or specific engine manuals are still available, but this would not easily provide information such as where to find the headlight fuse.
This Handbook is aimed at filling that gap, and being the stepping stone or introduction required before the next step to the more intense other manuals.
It should be remembered that this publication is based on the original AEC or Leyland engine vehicles. Numerous refurbishments and re-engining programmes have taken place since the late 1980s, and many variations can be found on individual vehicles as a result.
The Handbook for the Routemaster has been reprinted and is now available again on our online shop by clicking here.
